Student saves $300 a month with extreme couponing
Okay! This college student put my little stockpile to shame. Although, I'm not showing my grocery stockpile in my previous post, she still has much more than I do. As I vow not to go extreme, I am going to spend more time clipping and using coupons. Check out full story Student saves $300 a month.

COUPONING
Well, I've been spending a lot more of my time couponing. I fell off the ban wagon, but I'm back on. After watching a couple episodes of extreme couponing, I figured I need to get back on track. I took a break from clipping coupons to use up my stockpile I accumulated over the last several months. Although I'm not extreme, I definitely take advantage of getting great deals on Toilet paper, toothpaste, body wash etc. It's worth the time to look up deals on the blogs ( listed on coupon page) and I purchase several Sunday papers each week. I did purchase 1 shelf to organize personal items in my closet, but I'm not extreme. Take a peek. My husband has limited me to storing items in my closet. It's a great feeling to get products/food for little or nothing.

Lesson Learned
I am so disappointed in myself. My husband showed me how much interest we paid on our Sears charge card. I am the one who mainly uses it. I thought I was doing a great job in only charging what we could pay in full at the end of the month. Well, out of convenience, I charged way too much. I used it to fund the kids lunch card, gas, cell phone bill, everyday things that I would normally pay cash for, but it was so easy to charge. Well, the convenience cost us a whopping $748 in interest for 2010. I could kick myself, but when you know better, you do better. We could have used that money for so much more.

Your Net Worth
In researching and expanding my financial knowledge, I was asked if I knew my net worth. Hmmmm
No I don't, and I'm kinda hesitant to find out. However, this is a key element needed to start my financial portfolio. Here are a couple helpful easy links. Net Worth Calculation Worksheet, or Net Worth Calculator.

COUPONS
Okay, yeah I know it's been awhile. I've been caught up in clipping coupons, and haven't figured out how to manage my spare time between blogging, couponing, and everything else I can fit in. I am working on it, but right now, I'm happy to say I won't have to buy toilet paper, paper towels, toothpaste, or deoderant for a while now.

Checking Fees
After viewing my statement, I noticed a $12 fee. As I inquired about the fee, I was told that changes were made to my account the first of the month and I should have been notified. The bank I initially opened the account with was purchased by a major banking firm; in which now, I would have to make (2) $500 deposits monthly,or keep $1500 balance in order to have free checking. I was told my fee was discounted from $15 to $12, I guess I'm priviledged.
I have a joint acount at a credit union with my groom, I have a separate account that I use for personal use (cashing rebates, etc.) Needless to say I'm looking for a free account without many stipulations. I may have to resort in using banking online....

OOPS
I messed up on Friday, I ate out for breakfast in which I never do. In fact, I normally do not eat breakfast, so I know to get my metabolism going I need to eat breakfast. I turned around and ate out for lunch as well. So there goes $11. I have to do better, this weekend I will grocery shop for items to take for lunch and breakfast next week. I plan on starting an account for my savings on coupons and not eating out each week. I have to some how see progress to stay motivated.....

A Hmmm moment
For the last year I've been clipping and saving with coupons. I've done pretty good to the point I had to stop for a couple of months to use up the stock pile I accumulated. What good is a deal if you don't use it, or let expire. One of my co-workers brought to my attention that I save money clipping coupons, but eat out everyday for lunch. As a come back, I told him that the reason I can eat out every day is because I save money clipping coupons. After I thought about it for a moment. What good is saving with coupons, if I don't do anything useful with the savings. Spending it on take out everyday is not a wise choice for the savings. Tomorrow, I will start taking my lunch, I may eat out a couple of times, but I need to see something useful being done with the savings.

1st Step
Today I decided to take my first step in improving my financial portfolio. Although my 401K plan has increased $1500 according to my last statement, I need to save more. So today, I decided to increased my 401K contribution from 7% to 10%. It may not seem like a lot, but when you live from paycheck to paycheck every penny count.
